What features are new to cineSync 5, compared to previous versions?**

The majority of existing Cinesync 4 Pro features will be available in Cinesync 5 Pro, with some exceptions.

Updates coming soon include:

Can I join a cineSync 4 session using cineSync 5?** No, Cinesync 5 is a brand new infrastructure, and is not compatible with Cinesync 4. If you need to join a session with someone who is using Cinesync 4, you can download a legacy Cinesync 4 version at [www.backlight.co/product/cinesync/download](http://www.backlight.co/product/cinesync/download)

I have an existing cineSync account—will accessing cineSync 5 come with a price?**

No, accessing Cinesync 5 will not come with an additional price if you already have a Cinesync  account. Cinesync 5 is available today as a free upgrade to existing paid Cinesync subscriptions. If you have an existing Cinesync account, you can use and explore Cinesync 5 for free while retaining Cinesync 4 for current projects.

**Please note:** When you have a paid Cinesync account with Cinesync 4, you cannot use the same credentials on Cinesync 5. I’m not an existing cineSync user. Can I access cineSync 5 as a trial?** If you sign up for a Cinesync trial, your trial will automatically include access to Cinesync 5.

What are the minimum system requirements for running cineSync 5?**

### Macintosh

- Mac OS X 10.14 or later
- At least 4gig of ram
- An internet connection that allows access to whitelisted addresses on port 443

### Windows

- Windows 10 or later
- At least 4gig of ram
- An Intel or AMD GPU that supports OpenGL 4.1 or greater
- An internet connection that allows access to whitelisted addresses on port 443

### Linux

- Any 64 bit system that has GLIBC version 2.17 or later.
- At least 4gig of ram
- An Intel or AMD GPU that supports OpenGL 4.1 or greater
- An internet connection that allows access to whitelisted addresses on port 443

 

**Please note**: System requirements are based on playing a 1920 x 1080 movie encoded using H.264

How do I setup my firewall to use cineSync 5?**

Cinesync 5 communicates via port 443 and requires connections to the following addresses:

- [https://5.cinesync.com](https://5.cinesync.com/)

Previous versions of Cinesync connected via port 5068, but Cinesync 5 does not need access to port 5068

What is 'cineSync Play'?**

cineSync Play is the downloadable app used to run cineSync 5. The cineSync Play app is the fully-enabled local player version of cineSync, with local-only, frame-accurate playback and review of high-res frame sequences, OTIO and OCIO support, and more—all without needing to sign up for a license.

cineSync Play also comes integrated with any Ftrack license, so you can browse media, notes, and information in cineSync Play and then add feedback to your production plan.

We’re also working towards functionality enabling studios to easily integrate cineSync Play into their pipelines.

What files can I view in cineSync 5?**

Cinesync 5 supports most of the major video and image formats as well as multi-page PDFs and audio files including .mp4 and .wav

cineSync 5 also supports frame playback for image sequences, including DPX, EXR, and Cineon, as well as file sequences, including OTIO sequences

How do I report bugs or suggest features?**

Alternatively, you can send your ideas to us directly from the Cinesync interface via the Help menu.

How secure is cineSync 5?** Cinesync 5 is secure by design; only synchronization data such as ‘I am on frame 10’ and ‘I have drawn a line here’ are sent to the other clients in a session. In addition to this, all communication is sent over an encrypted SSL connection.
